    BPO Academy Gets Acredited by NITDA

    BPO Academy Records another First As National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Accredits BPO Academy Nigeria as its Pioneer Training Partner

    The DG, NITDA; Peter Jack presents accreditation  Certificate to CEO, BPO Academy: Obiora MaduIn its quest to bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s Outsourcing Industry, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has accredited Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Academy Nigeria Limited as its accredited training provider for the industry after it met the agency’s criteria for such accreditation.
    The choice of the Academy is due to its pioneering efforts as the first Pan-Nigerian BPO training institution in Nigeria in addition to its forefront role in talent development for the fast growing outsourcing industry in Nigeria.
    On hand to perform the groundbreaking ceremony was NITDA’s Director General, Mr. Peter Jack alongside top-ranking directors and officials from the agency as well as key players in the BPO industry. The event is the first of its kind since the emergence of the industry in Nigeria.
    In his welcome address, BPO Academy’s Chief Executive Officer; Mr. Obiora Madu noted that the event would undoubtedly shape the future of the outsourcing industry in Nigeria and the Sub- Saharan Africa. He thanked NITDA’s Director-General, Mr. Peter Jack and his team for their foresight in recognizing that the human element is the key to the growth and success of the BPO industry as exemplified by India.
    He added that the BPO Academy was born out of a shared desire to strategically position the outsourcing industry in Nigeria as a major contributor to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through the provision of skilled workforce to take up responsibilities in BPO organizations as well as attract international BPO organizations to Nigeria.
    Mr Madu added that globally, there are huge potential in the outsourcing industry and if we are to take our rightful place as the giant of Africa, Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind. BPO has the potential for creating employment for young people across all nations.

     He noted that there was no better way to build BPO capabilities in Nigeria other than to develop a BPO local talent base in accordance with world class skills.

    He outlined some of the achievements recorded by BPO Academy Nigeria thus far including: the certification of young BPO professionals who have recorded tremendous successes in the industry and young entrepreneurs like Mr Femi Johnson who through our various training/certification programmes and the World Bank sponsored ACCESS Nigeria training programme now firmly hold their own in the industry.

    In his speech, NITDA’s Director General, Mr Peter Jack said the Agency recognized the importance of a skilled workforce to the success of any government across the world adding that the various reform policies put in place by the present administration will not be achieved if human capacities remain unavailable.
    He thanked the BPO Academy for taking the initiative and setting the pace in the breeding of a skilled work force for the outsourcing industry. He advised others to take a cue from the academy if the industry must move forward. He added that NITDA have taken steps to address the lapses in the industry including a partnership with the World Bank for an online outsourcing programme.
    The DG expressed optimism that the industry is on the right pedestal with the accreditation of the Academy to provide certified professionals who will take up outsourcing duties in BPO organizations. He said the way forward is to localize global solutions through the relevant regulatory agencies like NITDA.

    He noted that the accreditation of BPO Academy as the pioneer training and certification partner for the industry was a bold step adding that the choice of BPO Academy is no coincidence as they have been at the forefront of providing the industry with a pool of talents presently available to the industry. In 2012, they were selected by the World Bank as one of the five training firms who implemented the Access training project, a programme initiated by the Ministry of Education- STEP B and sponsored by the World Bank. Last year, they were also selected by our agency to train about 120 young graduates from across the 36 states of Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja under the NITDA/BPO Certification scholarship scheme.
    Also present at the event were: President, Association of Outsourcing Professionals of Nigeria (AOPN), Dr. Austin Nweze, AOPN board members, President; Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON); Mr. Pius Okigbo, ISPON’s immediate past president, Dr Chris Uwaje, MD/CEO, In-sourcing Managing Director, Mrs. Adebo Onabowale, Presidents of other BPO related Associations, providers and users of outsourcing resources, government functionaries and BPO Academy Network Training Partners.

    Others include: Chief Executive Director, Vic Lawrence and Associates, Mrs. Ify Osineme, AOPN Secretary, Mrs. Jacqueline Odiade and the MD/CEO at Blue Ocean Outsourcing, Mr. Femi Johnson.

    The event came to a climax with the commissioning of the 20-sitter Computer Training laboratory with training materials and software set up by BPO Academy.
